This lady used to go to South Africa to buy Jewelry, she is is of Russian and German descent, she passed away in Florida.

Helene Fortunoff with her husband, Alan, in the family flagship store on Fifth Avenue in 1979. She is credited with making Fortunoff a major purveyor of jewelry.

Esther Fortunoff has served on the Board of Jewelers of America (JA), the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, and the Long Island Association, the premiere business group on Long Island.

She has received numerous awards, including the Retailer Hall of Fame from National Jeweler and Retailer of the Year from the Women's Jewelry Association.

She serves on the board of the Safe Center, L.I. and at Hofstra's Zarb School of Business.
