Watch the Maximsnew Work Haiti Resettlement Presidential Elections Minustah video, MaximsNewsNetwork 12 May 2010 - UN MINUTAH Port-au-Prince, Haiti - As widespread concerns over Haiti's next presidential election loom over the earthquake devastated country, the UN Mission in Haiti continues relocating thousands of internally displaced people in areas at risk of flooding, mudslides and other hazards. Since the aftermath of the earthquake in January, theUnited Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti MINUSTAH has helped to relocate more than 7400 Haitians to more secure areas. Movement to new sites continues to be the only option for displaced Haitians who are in areas at risk of flooding, mudslides and other hazards. MINUSTAHs engineering contingent continues to expand new settlements in the Port-au-Prince suburbs. In Tabarre Issa, 512 families from a red zone have been selected to join this settlement. They had been living in a camp in Valle de Bourdon which was threatened by flooding and a host of epidemics. Its important to have a bigger space, according to International standards in order to avoid health problems. One major challenge for the authorities in Port-au-Prince is to clear overcrowded settlements, which are no longer safe.
