Watch the Permian Student-athlete Identified As An Imposter video, The story of a Haitian orphan, who found his way to the Permian Basin, and was rebuilding a life for himself, was just that, a story. School officials tell NewsWest 9 that 16-year old Jerry Joseph is really 22-year-old Guerdwich Montimere, a former basketball player from Fort Lauderdale. ECISD Police and ICE agents confirmed that Permian Sophomore Jerry Joseph is really 22-year-old Guerdwich Montimere, a former basketball player from Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. After being confronted, Montimere admitted that he lied, he was then arrested and charged with presenting false identification to a peace officer. Other charges could follow. You may remember, last month, Permian officials received a tip that Montimere, then known as 16-year-old Permian basketball player Jerry Joseph, was in the country illegally from Haiti. After ICE agents could not find a match to Joseph's fingerprints, they discovered he was really a naturalized citizen of the US, not a Haitian orphan as he claimed. That's when they found out he was really 22-year-old Guerdwich Montimere. Now, there are questions about what repercussions will be felt by the Permian basketball team. The boys went 16-13 this season including a loss in the bi-district round of the playoffs. ECISD athletic officials have stayed in touch with University Interscholastic League officials during this whole ordeal, they have notified the UIL of this latest development. Montimere is now in custody.
